This squad, however, is a new look with countless injuries plaguing the Scotland boss and making his selection that much tougher. He had to go for something new as the options were thin and he hasn’t disappointed.

Record Sport looks at the new and exciting call-ups to the squad and how they have fared this season, the potential impact they could make and what it means for the future of the squad with a few younger faces included this time around.

James Wilson

A breakout season for the Hearts 18-year-old has earned him his first international call-up. With the injuries to Lyndon Dykes and Ben Doak there were spots open for the attacking line and Clarke has surprised everyone by choosing the Jambos star. Wilson has made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Tynecastle club this season, scoring six, and grabbing two assists.

His most recent goal came in a 3-1 comeback win over St Mirren. A coolly taken equaliser that set Hearts on their way for the win. It’s a massive opportunity for the youngster but he will be confident he can make an impact

Lennon Miller

Another young player getting the call but this one feels like less of a surprise. Lenon Miller being involved in the Scotland squad has been a long time coming. This season for Motherwell he has emerged as their captain, led the side through a terrific first half of the season and has been linked with moves abroad, with Udinese in Italy reportedly interested, with Union Saint Gilloise in Belgium also apparently big admirers.

He has recently made his return to the pitch after suffering an injury against Rangers in December which sidelined him until February 15 . Making four appearances since then playing the full ninety twice he looks to have his fitness back. This season he has 10 goal involvements in all competitions and this call-up is the cherry on top for what has been a fantastic year for the Steelmen’s Star.

Kevin Nisbet

Some new recruits will be facing off against the Greeks, but Clarke has also turned to a more experienced head to bolster his attacking line. Kevin Nisbet has revived his career this season for the Dons after his failed move to Millwall. His last call-up came in 2023 but his recent performances have made him hard to ignore.

Under Jimmy Thelin, the former Hibs man has scored 10 in 27 and got four assists. With five goal involvements in his last four he has been a huge part of Aberdeen clawing their way out of that hole they were in after an extended winless run.

Max Johnston

An interesting one from Clarke as former Motherwell prodigy Max Johnston gets the call-up for his form for Sturm Graz in the Austrian Bundesliga. The right back has made 13 league appearances, grabbing three assists.

And on the defensive end he’s no mug, winning 75 percent of his arial duels and 62.8 percent of his ground duels making him a perfect fit for this Scotland side.
